EXPERIENCED PROSECUTOR NEEDED TO SERVE AS RESIDENT LEGAL
ADVISOR IN TBILISI, GEORGIA
The Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT), Criminal
Division, U.S. Department of Justice, seeks an experienced Department attorney or Assistant
United States Attorney to serve as Resident Legal Advisor (RLA) in Tbilisi, Georgia. This
assignment is for a term of one year with a possible extension for a second year, contingent on
additional funding. (This is a reimbursable detail.)
The RLA will represent the U.S. Department of Justice and OPDAT during the implementation
phases of a justice sector assistance program. During his or her tenure, the RLA will engage in a
variety of criminal justice projects in Georgia, including: improving anti-corruption and anti-
money laundering law enforcement and prosecution capabilities; creating advocacy skills and
other professional development programs for prosecutors; helping to implement a new, reformed
criminal procedure code; and improving the skills of Georgian law enforcement concerning the
investigation and prosecution of narcotics and other priority offenses. The RLA will work
closely with Georgian law enforcement and government officials, including prosecutors, judges,
and legislators to carry out the justice sector assistance program. The RLA may also be called
upon to provide advice to the government on criminal justice legislation and on a range of issues
relating to the administration of justice and rule of law programs.
Applicants must have excellent interpersonal and management skills, be mature and self-
sufficient, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and possess extensive prosecutorial
experience in a variety of substantive criminal areas. Applicants should also be able to work
with diverse types of individuals and groups and achieve consensus on difficult and
multidimensional issues. In addition, international experience, particularly in working with
foreign law enforcement and justice systems, is desired although not required.
